Research Topic


Short introduction:


In the new application lab for Nanoscaled Optics and Samples we produce mainly thin magnetic multilayer systems by magnetron sputtering and thermal boat evaporation. After preparation we characterize these samples (topography, roughness, magnetic domain ...) by Atomic and Magnetic Force Microscopy (AFM/MFM) and Magneto-Optic Kerr Magnetometry (MOKE). These multicomponent magnetic samples are optimized for the experiments e.g. in project 3.2 and 3.3 like small angle scattering, coherent imaging or magnetic dichroism spectroscopy.

All samples can be modified after preparation by Focussed Ion Beam (FIB) and Electron beam Lithography, e.g. to produce mask for coherent imaging or nanostructures. Additionally we produce so called exchange biased magnetic layer systems and modify them by light ion bombardment. With this technique we can change the strength and the direction of the unidirectional anisotropy.
